Thrum Mittens Knitting Workshop
Description
Join us for a fun afternoon playing with little bits of alpaca wool! Commonly known as thrums, these are pieces of wool roving that are worked into your knitting to create a warm, dense, luxuriously soft fabric. This unique design originated in Newfoundland and Nova Scotia, designed for fishermen who worked in adverse weather conditions. Sinking your hands into alpaca thrum mittens offers the ultimate in comfort and warmth.
Requirements:
Must be comfortable with casting on, knitting, purling, increasing, decreasing and knitting in the round on four needles.
You will need 3.5mm and 4.0mm double pointed needles, stitch holder, darning needle and tape measure or ruler. If you don’t have these items, they will be available to purchase at the shop. We offer a 10% discount to participants on any additional supplies purchased.
Please pick up your yarn and pattern in advance at Alpaca Tracks T(h)read Lightly, 318 St. Lawrence Street in Merrickville.
Please arrive to class having knit the cuff of one of your mittens. This is so that we can focus on how to create thrums. There will not be time during the workshop to knit the cuff and also learn to thrum.
The workshop needs at least 3 participants to run. If the minimum isn’t reached, you will be notified by email and refunded in full.
